Clothing and layering for Lake District weather

Our Clothing, Materials & Environmental Approach

When we started Blake Fell Apparel, the aim was simple: good-quality clothing inspired by the Lake District, particularly the quieter western fells we know and love.

We also think it's important to be open about how our clothing is made.

Printing and inks

For many of our printed designs, our printers use water-based inks certified to OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT standards. This means the inks have been assessed against recognised chemical safety criteria. It doesn't mean the finished garment itself carries that certification.

Why much of our clothing is made to order

Rather than producing hundreds of printed T-shirts in advance, much of our range is printed or embroidered as customers order it.

That sometimes means a little longer before dispatch, but it helps avoid unnecessary finished stock and the waste that can come with it. We think that's a sensible trade-off.

The materials we choose

Comfort, quality and durability matter. Our range includes cotton, organic cotton and blended garments, with different fabrics suited to different products.

Some of our garments use materials with recognised organic or recycled-content certifications. Materials and certifications vary by item, so the individual product description is the best place to check.

No exaggerated promises

We're not going to claim that buying another T-shirt saves the planet. Every garment uses resources to manufacture, decorate, package and deliver.

But we can make sensible choices about materials and production, avoid unnecessary finished stock and be straightforward about the process.

That's the approach we're taking at Blake Fell Apparel.

Good clothing, inspired by the Lakes, made with a bit of thought.
